Call for papers: People, Robots and AI at Work

Call for papers: People, Robots and AI at Work

Introduction

The combination of robotics and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies changes modern workplaces because these technologies alter both work execution methods and employee work experiences and understanding of their jobs. Technological advancements have historically changed labour methods, but current AI and robotics developments create new challenges for human work assessment because these technologies now enable machines to handle creative tasks and emotional work and make decisions.

The implementation of AI systems and robots throughout various industries creates complicated employment changes because these technologies affect worker independence and professional responsibilities, mental workload, emotional states, and company frameworks. The Special Issue “People, Robots and AI at Work” calls for interdisciplinary research that investigates the effects of automation and robotisation and AI technologies on worker health and job creation, worker engagement and workplace social dynamics and organisational behaviour patterns.

Scope

The Special Issue aims to investigate how humans, robots and AI systems interact during professional work activities. We welcome theoretical, empirical, and conceptual research that explores how AI and robotic technologies influence worker experiences and job functions, organisational structures and leadership methods. Scholars from information systems, human–computer interaction, organisational studies, psychology and sociology and management, and related fields can contribute to this research.

The submission must present thorough research findings that will benefit both academic studies and business operations, as well as governmental policies. The study supports all research methods because it allows researchers to use qualitative and quantitative and mixed-method research techniques, which include case studies, experiments and surveys, ethnographies, design research and longitudinal studies.

Know More About This Issue

The introduction of new technologies through generative AI and social robots, combined with automated decision-making systems, has created new opportunities for businesses to adopt smart technologies into their daily operations. The introduction of artificial intelligence to creative fields, healthcare work and research environments has created situations where human abilities and machine abilities now interact with one another. The current changes require people to rethink how they understand employment freedom and work fulfillment and the mental and emotional challenges of their jobs, and the position of their work being observed and their protection against job loss.

The Special Issue investigates how technological advancements bring about operational changes that affect both personal and organisational workplace dynamics. The issue collects various viewpoints to create a framework that supports responsible AI work environment design while informing theoretical development, organisational procedures and policy debates.

Key Themes

The submission process accepts papers that will cover all themes that follow this list of topics.

  • The requirement for authors to demonstrate their theoretical knowledge and methodological skills exists because authors need to maintain their connection to Special Issue topics. Authors can receive research support services that assist in the entire submission process through their submission package, which includes:
  • The Special Issue requires authors to receive manuscript editing support that meets its standards.
  • The service provides assistance to researchers for developing their research designs and conceptual frameworks, and clarifying their research methodologies.
  • The service provides support for authors to enhance their research papers through improved organisation and writing expertise.
  • The guidance provides authors with information about journal formatting standards and the process for submitting their work.
  • The service helps authors who need to revise their manuscripts based on peer-review comments.
  • How We Support Your Submission

Publishing in a leading journal such as Information Technology & People requires strong theoretical grounding, methodological rigour, and close alignment with the Special Issue theme. Research support services can assist authors throughout the submission process by offering:

  • The Special Issue requirements will receive manuscript editing support, which authors can use to enhance their manuscripts.
  • The research team provides support for developing research designs, building conceptual frameworks and clarifying research methods.
  • The research team provides support to enhance the manuscript structure and improve the coherence and academic writing standards of the document.
  • The research team guides authors about journal formatting and submission procedures.
  • The research team assists authors who need help addressing peer-review comments and making manuscript revisions.
  • Journal Guidelines:

  •  All submissions need to be original works that have never been published and which are not currently being evaluated by other publication venues.
  • The main authors of a manuscript need to show they made significant academic contributions to their work.
  • The authors must take full responsibility for maintaining the correct information and complete research ethics standards of their published work.
  • All authors must reveal any potential conflicts of interest during the submission process.
  • Research studies that include human subjects must provide both ethical approval information and details about informed consent procedures.
  • Authors must not use AI tools for content creation because these tools cannot be registered as authors.
  • Authors must use AI tools only for language editing purposes, and they need to disclose this information to maintain clear transparency.
  • The submission process requires authors to submit their manuscripts through the Scholar One system using Microsoft Word format only.
  • The manuscript length must not exceed 10,000 words, which includes all references, tables, and figures.
  • A structured abstract, which includes Purpose, Methodology, Findings and Originality research elements, needs to be included in the study.
  • Important Dates

Submission Window Opens: 17 December 2025

Submission Window Closes: 31 May 2026

To ensure successful and timely submission to the special issue “People, Robots and AI at Work,” researchers are encouraged to leverage the expert services of the PhD Assistance Research Lab, offering comprehensive support from conceptualisation to final manuscript submission within the specified deadline.
