What is Fundraising

Economics & Finance

The process of gathering voluntary contributions of money or means, by requesting individuals, businesses, charitable foundations etc. for any sort of nonprofit organization, is called fundraising. Traditionally, fundraising means asking for money or any kind of resource on the street or at people’s doors and this has experienced a lot of success and growth but with modern times, new approaches like that of online fundraising, based on older methods- grassroots fundraising, are being discovered.

It can be divided into the following components:

  • Fundraising for nonprofit organizations: these organizations mostly obtain their funds from funding agencies. The funding agencies that fund these organizations depends on the area of work that both of these are related with
  • Fundraising sources: such as government funds, crowdfunding, philanthropic charities by big companies etc.
  • Ideas for nonprofit fundraising: like capital campaigns, membership campaigns, support from corporates etc.
  • Ways to raise funds: can be done online or offline. If it is done online, one needs to publicize his/her website or article to raise the funds.
  • Crowdfunding: can be considered the best way. Clear presentation of the cause and voluntary contributions are accepted in all means. Some of its types are- debt based, equity based, donation based and reward-based crowdfunding.
