Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB)

This theory ofplanned behaviour (TPB) was formulated by Ajzen in the year 1985 and was declared as an extension to the TRA (Theory of reasoned action). This theory presented the third independent determinant of intention which is called perceived behaviour (PB) control along with the two TRA determinants (Ajzen, 1985, 1991). This theory was projected to influence attitude and behaviour towards usage, norms and detected behavioural patterns. Characteristically, TPB is a theory predicting intentional behaviour and Chau and Hu (2002) proposed that TPB is more generalized than TRA due to additional determinants obtained by behaviour control. The theory of planned behaviour combines the PBD with more general frameworks of relations byconsidering belief, attitude, behaviour and intention.

The figure 6 gives a clear description of the theory of planned behaviour model which was modified by Chau and Hu (2002). This model presents modifications to the proposed TRA model by indicating that apart from attitude toward behaviour and subjective norm, behavioural intention is impacted by an additional factor i.e., perceived behavioral control.

Eagly & Chiaken (1993) presented the variables that obtained moral requirements which are self-identity and habit and these though forecast the intention and behaviour in relation to TRA model but it does not reveal planning of people and its work mechanism. Taylor and Todd (1995a) came up with decomposed TPB to furnish ease and better clarity of behaviour. The following section provides the theory formulated by author.
