The practice of managing people, aiming to achieve better results is called human resource management. It, basically is the scenario of hiring people who are fit for the company’s culture, values and objectives and who will be happy in the company’s environment and vice-versa. Therefore, human resource management’s bottom line is the management of human resources for the optimization of the company’s performance.

Now, there is a common question “what/who is a human resource?”. The answer is simply anyone who in their full potential contribute to the working of a company/organization. It might be the independent contractors, workers provided by contract firms etc. Basically, anyone who makes up a company’s workforce

Anyone, involved in the company to any extent, is a part of human resource to the company. It might be an independent contractor under the company’s contract for years, or an agency worker working at different companies at the same time. But the management and organization of these all of them should vary according to their extent of involvement in the company.

There are seven basics of HR:

  1. Recruitment & selection: This is arguably the most important element of HR. It is a key responsibility of the department
  2. Performance management: It is the second most important element of HR. This is basically helping people to work better.
  3. Learning & development: This is for struggling employees, in certain fields of work. L&D can be very helpful for the long-term objectives of an organization.
  4. Succession planning: It is basically the contingent planning, in case a key member of the organization leaves.
  5. Compensation and benefits: Fair compensation plays a key role in motivating employees to o
  6. Human Resources Information Systems: It is not a basic, it is a tool of HR department and relates to the digital domain.
  7. HR data and analytics: This relates to the data driven nature of HR.
